Biography

James manages the overall operations of the Wege Foundation and engages the Board of Trustees and its committees to ensure they are well-informed to make sound decisions for the foundation. His nontraditional path to philanthropy has guided the development of his principles, strategies and values with a strong focus on underrepresented communities and equity. He has over 20 years of experience with philanthropy and nonprofit entities. He previously served as a program officer with the Greater New Orleans Foundation, focusing on environmental justice, racial equity and workforce development. He also served as a senior consultant with Converge, a social justice-focused consulting group. James also served under Mayor Mitch Landrieu as a program manager for the City of New Orleans. Before that, he served as the project director of a national youth development nonprofit. In addition, James practiced as a community economic development and tax attorney. He is a proud native of Brooklyn, NY and a graduate of Fordham University School of Law and Loyola University Maryland.
